VA Benefits

Your loved one lived a life of service and sacrifice, and now it’s time for them to receive the support they deserve. It’s our honor to provide the highest quality of care for veterans and their families.

How Does the VA Support Veterans Home Care?

If your loved one has served in the United States Military, they may be eligible for a variety of home care benefits provided through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA offers several programs to assist veterans with their health and wellness needs, including access to home care services.

Among these programs to help with veterans home care is Aid and Attendance, which is a pension paid to veterans or their surviving spouses who require extra support to live safely at home. The Aid and Attendance pension is a tax-free benefit that exists for wartime veterans who do NOT have service-connected disabilities.

Who is Eligible for These Benefits?

If you’re wondering whether or not your loved one qualifies for the Aid and Attendance program, not to worry—we’ll help you navigate the process. There are three primary areas of screening that the VA uses to determine qualification:
Veteran with his wife

Is he/she a veteran or the surviving spouse of a deceased wartime veteran who needs help to live safely at home?

Note: combat duty or overseas service is not required. Surviving spouses must have been married to the veteran for at least one (1) year at the time of the veteran’s death. Married couples are only eligible if the veteran is disabled and meets the guidelines.

Did the veteran serve at least one (1) day during wartime?

  • World War ll (December 7, 1941 – December 31, 1964)
  • Korean Conflict (June 27, 1950 – January 31, 1955)
  • Vietnam Era (August 5, 1964 – May 7, 1975) or served in the country of Vietnam February 28, 1961 – August 5, 1964
  • Persian Gulf War (August 2, 1990 – Date TBD)

Did the veteran serve:

  • At least 90 days on active duty. (Persian Gulf War veterans must have two (2) years of active duty or the full period for which they were called for active duty.)
  • With an honorable discharge.
  1. Does the veteran or surviving spouse have a medical condition causing the need for assistance with activities of daily living? (If under 65, must have a letter from social security proving disability.)

  2. Does the veteran or surviving spouse want to use their VA pension with Aid and Attendance primarily for in-home care, adult day care, assisted living, or a board and care home?
Does the veteran or surviving spouse have a net worth (income + assets) at or less than $150,538? (Note: A primary residence and vehicle are not counted as part of net worth. Also, ongoing non-reimbursable medical and long-term care expenses may reduce your countable income.)
